Notes:
For support for ACU or Smart Array controllers, please visit Contact HP.

For feedback or suggestions on ACU, please send comments to acu@hp.com; however, we regret that support cannot be provided through this address.

The legacy ACU (native win32 application) and ACU executables can not be run on the same server at the same time; however, configurations created with one utility should be compatible with those created by the other.

Users will automatically be logged out after a predetermined period of inactivity when using ACU and will have to re-login.

On the Web-based Management Device Homepage, under "options", "Anonymous Access" should be enabled when using ACU.

When clicking on a controller that is currently being configured in a different ACU session, a message will appear which allows you to override the other ACU session or cancel. If you choose to override the other ACU session, any unsaved changes in the other session will be discarded.

To uninstall ACU, use Add/Remove Programs located in the Control Panel on Windows Systems.

To run ACU in local application mode on Windows, Internet Explorer must be the default browser.

The following are known issues:

  • Sometimes the login on the Device Home Page will not work the first time. Click on the Device Home Page link again or refresh the page and re-login.
  • When using Linux as the host operating system, if a Smart Array controller has 16 or more volumes configured, deleting any volume in the ACU will not update the /proc/partitions to reflect the deletion of the device node associated with that volume. Rebooting the server will cause the update to happen. Note that there is also a limitation that only the first 16 volumes configured will be available to the operating system.

Enhancements

Upgrade Requirement:
Optional - Users should update to this version if their system is affected by one of the documented fixes or if there is a desire to utilize any of the enhanced functionality provided by this version.

Added support for the following controllers:

  • HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i
  • HP Dynamic Smart Array B320i
  • HP Smart Array P822

Added support for Simplified Chinese
Now officially supporting and providing native X64 versions in addition to existing 32 bit versions

Added new features requiring a valid SAAP 2.0 (Smart Array Advanced Pack) license key:

  • Replace Array
    • Allows the transfer of contents of an array to an existing empty array or a new array. All logical drives from the source array will be transferred. The original array will be deleted and its data drives will be freed as unassigned drives. The drive types at source and destination arrays can be different.  This allows moving data from SATA to SAS, or SAS to SATA.  However, the drive types comprising the array must still be of the same type.
  • Heal Array
    • Allows the replacement of failed or degraded physical drives in an array with healthy physical drives. The original array and logical drive numbering will be unaffected after the replacement.  The replacement physical drives must be of the same interface type (such as SAS, SATA and etc.) as the original drives.  The operation will be available only if enough unassigned physical drives of the correct size are available.
  • Spilt Mirror Backup\Rollback
    • Create Split Mirror Backup
      • This task splits an array that consists of one or more RAID1, RAID 1+0, RAID 1 (ADM), or RAID 10 (ADM) and creates two arrays: A primary array and a backup array. The new arrays have the following characteristics:
        • If the original array contained RAID 1 or RAID 1+0 drives, the primary array will contain RAID 0 drives.
        • If the original array contained RAID 1 (ADM) drives, the primary array will contain RAID 1 drives.
        • If the original array contained RAID 10 (ADM) drives, the primary array will contain RAID 1+0 drives.
        • The backup array always contains RAID 0 logical drives.
        • The primary array continues to be fully accessible to the operating system while the backup array is hidden from the operating system.
      • This feature is useful when you want to capture a backup before performing a risky operation. The Manage Split Mirror Backup operation can be used to either re-mirror the primary and backup arrays, or to make the backup array into an independent array which can be accessed by the operating system.
    • Manage Split Mirror Backup
      • This task allows for the management of the primary and backup arrays created by the Create Split Mirror Backup operation. When the operation is performed on a primary array, the following options are available:
        • Re-mirror the array and preserve the existing data. Discard the backup array. This option re-creates the original mirrored array with the contents of the primary array.
        • Re-mirror the array and rollback to the contents of the backup array. Discard existing data. This option re-creates the mirrored array but restores its contents to the point in time when the backup array was created. It is not recommended that this option be performed online, or while the logical drive to be rolled back is mounted or in use by the operating system.
        • Activate the backup array. This option makes the backup array fully accessible to the operating system.

Note: In the case where the primary array is no longer available. This task can only be used to activate the backup array.

Enhancements
Enhanced Features of ACU 7.0
Local-only Mode*: ACU, on Windows Platforms, now defaults to a local application mode that does not require a web server, running essentially as a native application using a web browser. ACU can also be configured to run as a Windows service with a web server and accessed remotely for configuration. ACU on Linux always runs in Web server mode.

Stream-lined interface: ACU has an improved, streamlined interface which requires substantially fewer mouse clicks than previous versions.

Keyboard Support: ACU supports enhanced keyboard controls for quick task execution. ACU no longer requires a mouse to use.

Hot-keys: ACU supports Hotkeys for the most popular configuration tasks. ACU Help documents the various keys.

Right-click Menus: ACU supports a Right-Click task menu for quick access on configurable items.

"Classic" Configuration Method: ACU defaults to a Standard configuration path, very similar to the ACU "classic" win32 interface, which lists all available tasks for quick access on any selected controller. Note: Configuration Wizards are still available and can be selected.

Scripting: ACU supports command-line array configuration replication through the use of capture/input files. This interface can be used for command-line configuration without a user interface.

    * certain features subject to availability depending on the type of Smart Array controller installed and the operating system used.

Existing Features of the Web-based ACU

ACU supports automatic or express configuration, configuration wizards, and custom configuration paths to meet all configuration needs.

ACU supports context sensitive FAQs in both Express and Configuration Wizards.

ACU supports hot-plug of controllers (PCI and Fibre) without having to restart the application, simply use the rescan link.

ACU supports the assigning of multiple spares per array to support multiple physical drive failures.
ACU supports SSP (Selective Storage Presentation) for Smart Array Cluster (MSA500) and MSA1000 controllers to assign access permissions to logical drives. ACU also supports the assigning of Host Modes to logical drives on the MSA1000.

ACU running in Web server mode on either OS Platform allows multiple clients to configure multiple controllers attached to a single host without interfering with any other client's changes.

ACU provides a simple setup dialog that allows the selection between modes of execution.

ACU supports the setting of Surface Scan delay.

Added additional stripe sizes for RAID 5 for Smart Array 6400 and Smart Array 6400 EM controllers with Firmware(FW) version 1.40 and above. Default stripe size remains 64 KB. These controllers now support up to 256 KB stripe sizes from FW version 1.40 and higher.

Fixes
Modified the installer to disallow 32-bit drivers/applications from installing on 64-bit operating systems.

Resolved the following:

  • Security vulnerability which had the potential to allow Denial of Service (DoS) attacks through maliciously malformed HTTP requests. These maliciously malformed HTTP requests will stop the management products, and for NetWare, abend the OS. A fix to prevent cross-site scripting was checked in to remedy this. Please note that for other Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) the Operating System will not be affected, and the main functionality of the targeted servers cannot be affected; only the HP Management Products can be halted.

  • Security vulnerability which had the potential to allow Denial of Service (DoS) attacks through maliciously formatted HTTP Header information. These maliciously malformed HTTP requests will stop the management products, and for NetWare, abend the OS. Please note that for other Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) the Operating System will not be affected, and the main functionality of the targeted servers cannot be affected; only the HP Management Products can be halted.

  • Security vulnerability that had the potential to allow timing attacks to be performed on RSA keys, a vulnerability to which OpenSSL is generally vulnerable. The correction involves turning RSA blinding on. OpenSSL version 0.9.6j addresses this vulnerability and was incorporated to remedy this.

  • security vulnerability to which OpenSSL is generally vulnerable. This vulnerability has the potential to allow a timing attack on OpenSSL that in effect allows an attacker, through creating millions of invalid SSL/TSL connections, to perform a single RSA private key operation on a ciphertext of its choice using the server's RSA key, without actually compromising the server's RSA key. OpenSSL version 0.9.6j addresses this vulnerability and was incorporated to remedy this.

Fixes
If upgrading from a previous version of ACU on Windows NT4, the old ACU shortcut "Compaq Array Configuration Utility XE" will not be deleted and still works. Windows NT4 does not support shortcut deletion.

The new Internet Explorer Enhanced Security feature in Windows Server 2003(win32/win64) prevents the Common Homepage from loading. Since ACU depends on the Common Homepage, ACU will fail to load. To correct this problem, the server being administered must be added to the "Local internet zone".

Add the desired target servers to the "Local intranet zone" by:

  • Clicking on Tools, then Internet Options,

  • Selecting the Security tab,

  • Clicking on the "Local internet" icon,

  • And manually entering http://:2301 and https://:2381 as entries in the Local intranet zone.
Enhancements
Smart Array 6400 controller.
  • ACU will now display which spare drive is active in the array more information screen for all controllers.

  • ACU on Windows now supports running as a service. ACU can be run in executable or service modes. By default ACU installs in executable mode. Run setup.exe or cpqacuxe -setup to select the execution mode.

  • ACU now shows a progress dialog when starting up in executable mode.

  • ACU now supports a command-line interface for configuration. This command-line interface uses the same commands as ACU scripting mode, however does not require input script files since all commands can be typed on the command-line.
Updated the following:
  • ACU has been optimized to run faster.

  • ACU now handles failover of redundant Smart Array Cluster Storage controllers and MSA1000 controllers.

  • ACU Component installer shortcut has changed to "HP Array Configuration Utility". There are now shortcuts to the README.TXT and setup. If upgrading from a previous version of ACU, the old ACU shortcut "Compaq Array Configuration Utility XE" will not be deleted and still works.

ACU supports RAID ADG (Advanced Data Guarding), on certain controllers, which supports up to 2 simultaneous physical drive failures.

  • ACU now supports keyboard controls for the Mozilla/Netscape browsers.

  • Unused space is now a clickable item in the Config View.

  • ACU now supports a right-click mouse menu on the Config View in Standard Configuration Mode.

  • ACU now supports the Re-Enable Failed Logical Drive task which allows you to re-enable failed logical drives after failed physical drives have been replaced.

  • ACU now detects hotplug drives in non-intelligent storage enclosures.

  • Updated OpenSSL to 0.9.6k Release which fixed some security vulnerabilities.

Version:6.40.11.0 (1 Jul 2003)

Enhancements
Added support for the following:
  • Smart Array 6400 EM Controller.

  • ACU now supports running as a true local application on Windows. Currently to bring it up, run hpaculocal.exe.

  • ACU now has improved keyboard controls and hotkeys in Internet Explorer.

  • ACU now directy goes to standard configuration instead of the wizard menu. The wizards are now task links available in standard configuration.

  • ACU Windows setup dialog (accessible from Start Menu or setup.exe) now offers simplified execution mode options: Local Application Mode or Remote Service Mode.
Updated categorization information to ensure proper placement on the support and drivers website (hp.com), Remote Deployment Utility, and Version Control Repository Manager.

Version:6.30.11.0 (23 Apr 2003)
