This package contains the utilities and binaries for upgrading HPE Intel Ethernet NICs ROM images running under Linux x86 platform.

Prerequisites:

This package requires the appropriate driver for your network adapter be installed before firmware can be updated.

This package can be used with the HP Smart Update Manager (HPSUM) version 7.0.0.0 or later. Earlier versions of HPSUM cannot install this package correctly.


To ensure the integrity of your download, HPE recommends verifying your results with this SHA-256 Checksum value:

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.


Installation:

Updating firmware with rpm installed:

  • Install the NIC firmware rpm using the commmand:  rpm -ivh <rpm_filename>.rpm.  This extracts the contents of the rpm to the '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu' location.

  • The CP030597.scexe script is located in the 'hp-scexe-compat' folder. Further information is available in CP030597.txt file in the 'hp-firmware-nic-*' folder. The actual name of the 'hp-firmware-nic-*' folder is based on the version of the rpm installed in the first step above.

  • To install firmware, you can execute ONE of the following commands:
    • ./CP030597.scexe in the '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu' location (OR)
    • ./hpsetup in the 'hp-firmware-nic-*' location

  • To uninstall the rpm, run the command: rpm -e <rpm_package_name>


Updating firmware without installing the rpm:

  • Extract the contents of the rpm using the command: rpm2cpio <rpm_filename>.rpm | cpio -id.  This extracts the contents of the rpm to 'usr' folder in the current directory.

  • Navigate to the 'usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/hp-firmware-nic-*' location and run ./hpsetup to update the firmware. The actual name of the 'hp-firmware-nic-*' folder is based on the version of the rpm installed in the step above.

  •  

Additional Information:

  • Under certain scenarios, after updating the EPROM you may be required to reboot the system and re-run the component in order to update the flash ROM (OROM) on the adapter(s).
  • The results of the firmware upgrade are saved in the CP030597.log file, located at the /var/cpq/ directory.
  • Network connectivity may stop during the firmware upgrade process and may need to be restarted after completion.
  • Installing the firmware rpm package (rpm -ivh) does not update the adapter firmware.  It merely extracts the rpm content to the local system. Updating the firmware on the adapter requires following the above outlined steps.
