DESCRIPTION

HP ProLiant Gen9 servers configured with Intel Xeon E5 2600 v3 processors, Revision 1.0 (dated 07/11/2014) of the System ROM, and Processor x2APIC Support Enabled (the default value) will not properly "Blue Screen" or reset when a Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) occurs. When an NMI occurs and the server is running Microsoft Windows 2008 or Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, the server will continue to run even though it should not. This issue does not impact other operating systems.

SCOPE

The following Gen9 servers are impacted when utilizing Microsoft Windows 2008 or Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 operating systems, System ROM Revision 1.0 (09/11/2014), and Processor x2APIC Support Enabled:

  • HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9
  • HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9
  • HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9
  • HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9
  • HP ProLiant DL180 Gen9
  • HP ProLiant BL460c Gen9
  • HP ProLiant XL230a Gen9

RESOLUTION

The issue is addressed in Revision 1.20 (08/26/2014) of the System ROM.

The System ROM can also be downloaded from HP.com:

  1. Click on the following URL:

    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

  2. Click "Drivers and Downloads."
  3. Enter a Product in the Search box.
  4. Select the desired ProLiant series.
  5. Select the appropriate operating system.
  6. Select the Category, "BIOS-System ROM."
  7. Select Revision 1.20 of the System ROM (dated 08/26/2014) and click "Download."
